Day 10: Camera
Previous Topic  Next Topic

In the last lesson we asked you to set up your HANDHELD SIMULATOR to use the GPS, SKETCH and BARCODE questions in PocketSurvey. If you have not done that, go back and do it now before continuing with this lesson.

This lesson will show you how to set up your survey with a CAMERA question that will prompt you to take a photograph when ran on the HANDHELD.

Note

In order for a camera feature to be operational on your HANDHELD DEVICE a camera must be connected before your survey is transferred across.

Now do the following.

    1. Create a new survey and save it as “Day 10”. In the MAIN SECTION create a CAMERA question by clicking the CAMERA tab in the QUESTION DEFINITION DIALOG. Create a QUESTION PROMPT of “Camera” and again make sure the DATA DESTINATION FILE is set to SINGLE ITEM so that you can SAVE the information you collect in the SINGLE ITEM FILE.

    1. Aside from a QUESTION PROMPT, CAMERA questions do not require any extra parameters. INSERT the question.

    1. You should be able to identify a camera inbuilt into your PDA. If not you should connect an external camera to your PDA at this point.

    1. RUN your survey, Enter a SURVEY IDENTIFIER and you will be prompted with the CAMERA question. Take a picture. The WAITING FOR PICTURE counter at the bottom of your HANDHELD DEVICE counts the seconds taken to complete the question.

    1. QUIT the survey and RECEIVE it back from the HANDHELD DEVICE so we can view the data in the DATA DOCTOR. Click TOOLS | QUICK EDITOR | “Day 10single item”.

    1. Under the CAMERA column you should be able to see a small thumbnail image of your photograph. Click on this if you want to see the full size image.

The next lesson we will explore how to use the FORMATTED QUESTION. This question enables you to enter data in a formatted string.
