PocketSurvey can be launched from the Start | Run option in Windows like any other program but you will need to specify the full path to the program, for example: "C:\Progams Files\PocketSurvey\PocketSurvey Designer.exe".

It is unlikely that you will need to do this unless you are an advanced user and wish to use the special command line options. This advanced feature allows you to set up icons to do specific tasks with PocketSurvey. The commands available are shown in the table below. Any commands used must be separated with a comma.

Command

open "<surveyname.Q>"

Opens a named a survey questionnaire. The parameter <surveyname> must always be enclosed by quotation marks and should include an absolute or relative path.

receive append

Receives data from the handheld and appends to any existing data

receive overwrite

Receives data from the handheld and overwrites any existing data.

send VisitList

Sends the visit list to the handheld.

send everything

Sends everything to the handheld (equivalent to 'Smart Send').

internet receive append

Receives data from your ftp site and appends to any existing data.

internet receive overwrite

Receives data from your ftp site and overwrites any existing data.

internet send visitlist

Sends the visit list to your ftp site.

internet send everything

Sends everything to your ftp site (equivalent to 'Smart Send')

quiet

Causes PocketSurvey to run in minimised mode. Simulator is not shown in this mode

quit

Closes PocketSurvey.


N.B. The internet versions of receive and send use the currently selected users list. Before you use the internet command line options you will need to perform either a send or a receive interactively from the main menu in order to tick the appropriate items in the users list.

An Example

The example command line, shown below, would start PocketSurvey with the survey design 'MySurvey', receive data from the your ftp site, then quit.
